TableTop Math – Game Based Review Activities

TableTop Math are skill practice games that can be played in multiple formats including card games and board games. Each game has a different twist, play one or let the students choose! Upgrade your old task cards!

Bring the TableTop Game revolution to your classroom! Board games are experiencing a renaissance, and tapping into their innate engagement is a no-brainer. I believe this is the natural evolution of task cards. Keep the math practice, enhance soft skills, and up the game quotient.

My plan is that TableTop games cover a single unit of study. The question will range from simple skill practice to application. For the launch, I have provided four different game styles that can be played with the same set of cards. Mix it up, or let your students choose what to play. The choice is yours!

In the gameplay, I aimed to capture popular mechanics that are used in modern games.

In Journey, students play a traditional board game for 2-4 players. Students will move around the board trying to accumulate points. Each student will attempt the same question each turn. (you will need dice). In Conquer, students play a strategy board game for 2 players. Students will perform attacks on their opponent’s with the goal of reaching their home base. Each student will attempt the same question each turn. (you will need either unit cubes or to laminate the game board and use dry erase pens).

In Draft, students play a pick and pass card game for 3-4 players. Students will select a problem from a hand in an attempt to score the most points. Watch out for those action cards! Each student will attempt the different questions each turn.

In Mystery, students play a secret mission card game for 3-4 players. Students will select a problem from a hand in an attempt to score and accomplish a secret task. Can they complete them? Each student will attempt the different questions each turn.

This video provides an explanation of the game rules for the four different games. I have recorded it so that it is student-facing, but you can benefit from learning the rules yourself. (Written directions are also included).

Each game includes 32 math cards, two gameboards, handouts for each game, one answer key card and special action cards to make play even more fun.

You can use the cards one unit at a time or shuffle multiple units together for one epic review
